I picked up some great Picture Books at the library this week. It was tough choosing a favorite, but I’ve decided on Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. As a reader, I chose this book for it's lovable character, Molly Lou. She's a spunky little gal with a lot of self confidence. As a writer, I chose this book for its excellent pacing. There are many ways to tell a story, but if you want your story to become a published picture book, it will need to be paced the picture book way.
Ms. Lovell rhythmically paces her story to fit the 32 page picture book format. The beginning sets up her character, the problem is introduced on the 9th page spread and the MC solves her problem just like we knew she should--thanks to the great character intro. Check out Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon if you want to pace your stories the picture book way.

I love this book, Rachel! She is some character. And what a name, Molly Lou Melon.
I love the library. Free is a very good price.
I want to read this one! Sounds like inspiration for one (or several) of my own PBs.
Thanks for the info.
